Spoken: Elmo: Ummm, Ms. Schurr? Diane: Oh, yes, well would you call me Deedles, please, Elmo? Elmo: Okay, Deedles. (laughs) What are you doing? Diane: Well, I'm reading braille. It's a system devised for blind people who can't see to read print. Elmo: Oooooh. If Deedles is blind, and can't see Elmo, then how does Deedles know what Elmo is like? Diane: Well, one way that I know is by listening to the sound of your voice. Elmo: You mean Deedles can tell what Elmo is like just by listening to Elmo's voice? Diane: Sure. Elmo: Wow! What else, what else? Diane: Well, I can tell by touch, that's one sense that we use a great deal. (she touches his arms) Let me see. Oh gosh, ya got skinny arms, mine aren't quite that skinny! Elmo: Wow, so Deedles can find out about Elmo by listening and by touching. Diane: That's right. Elmo: Any other way? Diane: Well, by smelling ya, I can smell ya, do you mind? Elmo: No, no, no. Diane: Let me get a whiff here. (she smells Elmo) Cute little monster smell! That's alright, Elmo! Elmo: Thank you. Diane: Oh, sure. Elmo: So, touching or listening or smelling gives Deedles ideas of what Elmo is like, even if Deedles can't see Elmo? Diane: Absolutely, because the ideas and the thoughts come from withinside (her word, not mine!) our heads. Elmo: Wow! (music starts) Diane: Isn't that a kick? Sung: I had a thought Didn't find it on the ground Do you know where thoughts are found Very simply said The thought came from my head Got it from my head Thoughts come from your head From your head Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Elmo: Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Diane: I had a dream Had it lying fast asleep Down by where the willows weep On a grassy bed The dream came from my head Got it from my head Dreams come from your head From your head Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Elmo: Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Diane: I found a song Found it whistling in the rain I found a song Found it singing in my brain The song came from my head Right here in my head Songs come from your head From your head Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Elmo: Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Diane: Thoughts come from your head Dreams come from your head Songs come from your head From your head Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Elmo: Dooot - un dooot - a - dee - daaa Both: scat (I can't write it all out!)
