Tooryanse ========= This is an old children's song which is frequently played at major street crossings throughout Japan. It has an eerie, dead sound to it. Note: "seventh birthday" probably refers to the celebration of shichi-go-san, for children of ages 7, 5, and 3, and the destination alluded to by "mairimasu" is probably a shrine. The author is unknown. Transcription and translation by Martin Cooney, completed July 2001. With regard to pronunciation, the Japanese text below follows for the most part the Hepburn guidelines for romanization. In addition, an english translation follows the tab, but please be aware that the Japanese in the song is not entirely modern. The tab below does not specifically indicate rhythm; please listen to the song itself if the rhythm is unclear. ---------------------------- --0---0-------0--0---------- ----------2----------2------ ------------------------3--- ---------------------------- ---------------------------- Too ryan se Too rya-n se ----------0-------------------- --1-1--1----1--0--1-0-------0-- -----------------------2-2----- ------------------------------- ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Koko ha doko no hosomichi ja ---------0--------------------- --1--1-1---1--0--1-0-------0--- ---------------------2-2------- ------------------------------- ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Tenjin-sama no hosomichi ja -------------------------------- ---------0---------------------- --0---0------0------------------ ----------------3--2-2-3---3---- -------------------------------- -------------------------------- Chiito too shite kudashanse -------------------------------- -----------0-0------------------ --0-0-0-0------0----0----------- -----------------3----3-2-2-3--- -------------------------------- -------------------------------- Goyou no nai mono tooshasenu ------------0-0--------------------- --1-1--1-1------1---0--1-0------0--- ---------------------------2--2----- ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ Kono kono nanatsu no o i wa i ni ---------------------------------- --------------0------------------- --0-0-0--0--0---0-----0----------- -------------------3----3-2-2-3--- ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- O fuda wo o same ni mai rimasu ----------------------------------- --0-0-0--0-0-0----0-0-0------------ ---------------2---------2--------- ----------------------------2-2-3-- ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------- Iki ha yoi yoi Kae ri ha kowai --------------------0-1--0---------------- ----------0-1--0--1--------1--0--0-----0-- ------0-2----------------------------2---- --2-3------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ Kowai nagara mo too ryan se toorya-nse ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Pass through, pass through Where is this narrow path here?
