Playing the two lowest notes of each measure on alternating beats (3xxxxx, xx0xxx [x2]; x0xxxx, xx2xxx [x2]; etc.) 2. Alternating the bass note pulse on each beat with block chord versions of everything on the off beat (3xxxxx, xx020xx [x4]; x0xxxx, xx200xx [x4]; etc.) 3. A combination of both. It's mostly just improvised patterns with the same notes to make it easier to sing the You could just play the main riff throughout the verses and it still sounds fine, just noting. He will always go back to the original main riff when going into the riff, though. For the instrumental riff (and the reason why this song is so hard to tab), it sounds he's playing 3 notes outside of the quarter-note pulse because it's in the same register Eirik's part, but he's actually only playing two 16th notes (beyond the first measure). a testament as to how solid their timing and intonation is that it creates crazy patterns like that.
